We, here in South Central Pennsylvania, have suffered some of the most severe thunderstorm activity I’ve ever seen. Huge trees have been completely uprooted and toppled by wind. Hail, the size of golf balls have been pouring down from the sky. Lightning streaks continue….sky to ground….one after another. Thunder shakes houses.
I, myself, have been without power from Thursday night until just about an hour ago. It was anticipated that I would not have power until tomorrow at noon. So, I am thankful for this and know that the electric company employees are hard at work–day and night–to restore power to those in need.
I have heard some say that God is “pouring His wrath out on this world”. I don’t know…perhaps He is.
But, I can say one thing for sure….He is pouring His love out on this world.
I just walked outside this morning. There are chain saws aplenty at work. I see neighbor helping neighbor….talking with one another….laughing amidst the destruction. I saw one neighbor smile…a woman I have never seen smile or even talk to another in all the time I have lived here.
Right now, there is a cluster of people on the driveway below me. They are discussing what to do next. Should they continue to clear one of the neighbor’s driveways so that others can have access? Or should they go and help another neighbor remove the huge maple tree that was uprooted and crashed through his garage roof?
Yes, God IS at work. He is uniting people who previously were not united. He is initiating conversation and laughter between people who were not even talking with one another. He has people working together, pulling together, joining in community….
and all I can do is smile and thank Him.
As for me, I was protected through these storms. The only damage I received was the power outage. No trees down, no crashed roofs or smashed windows. I am very thankful for this.
And I am thankful that God is pouring out His love in big ways here in my neighborhood.
And He has given us this command: Those who love God must also love one another. …..1 John 4:21
